Our Philosophy

Wellbeing begins with the relationships we cultivate—with ourselves, others and the natural world.

At Maytree Meridian, wellbeing is understood as more than physical health. We believe it grows through the quality of our relationships—with ourselves, with others, and with the living world. Guided by an eco-health philosophy, our yoga, meditation and nature-based practices encourage a deeper sense of connection, resilience and belonging.

Our Guiding Principles

Connection

We are part of nature, not separate from it.

Presence

Mindful awareness allows us to respond to life with greater clarity and compassion.

Simplicity

Small, consistent practices often create the greatest transformation.

Evidence & Wisdom

We value both contemporary science and the enduring insights of yoga and mindfulness.

Stewardship

Caring for ourselves and caring for the natural world are mutually supportive.

Why the name 'Maytree Meridian?

The inspiration for the name Maytree Meridian began with the Sanskrit word maitri, which is commonly translated as "loving-kindness", "benevolence" or "unconditional friendliness".

Maitri is more than a word—it is a way of living. It encourages kindness towards ourselves, compassion for others, and respect for the natural world. It is a philosophy that continues to guide my daily life and the way I approach my relationships with people, animals and the environment.

As I explored names for the business, I was drawn to the way maitri sounded. Phonetically, it reminded me of "Maytree", a name that also evokes the quiet strength, resilience and beauty of trees and the wisdom of the natural world.

The word "Meridian" reflects another important aspect of my philosophy. It represents pathways of movement, energy and connection—within ourselves, between people, and throughout the living landscapes of which we are a part.

Together, Maytree Meridian reflects a simple belief: wellbeing grows through connection. By cultivating kindness, mindful awareness and a respectful relationship with nature, we create the conditions for greater balance, resilience and flourishing—for ourselves and the world around us.

What is Eco-health?

Eco-health recognises that the health of people, communities and ecosystems is deeply interconnected. When we care for the natural world, we also create healthier conditions for ourselves. Likewise, when we cultivate our own wellbeing, we are better able to care for the places and communities we belong to.
